The goal of agricultural education is to educate students
about the importance of agriculture through a variety of exciting and
engaging experiences. We hope students will become informed, responsible
citizens as a result of their experiences in and out of the classroom
and that they will leave our school with a passion for agriculture and
education. Students enhance their classroom experiences through their
involvement in the FFA chapter and independent projects (SAEs). Students
also have the opportunity to earn college credit by completing a career
pathway or taking some of our dual credit courses.
We offer 2
career pathways in agriculture at RCHS: Horticulture & Animal
Science. Each course we offer is designed to build on knowledge from
other courses in that career area. These courses are offered on a
rotating basis to expose students to a variety of topics in each area.
To benefit most from the courses offered here it is recommended that
students follow a planned program beginning with
Principles of Agriculture. Principles of Ag is the foundation course on
which all other courses build. Students who take 3 courses within a
pathway are eligible to take the state assessment (KOSSA) in that area
and earn 3 hours of elective college credit. More information on this
can be found in the following handout and on the KY Department of Education website.
All courses are imbedded into the Canvas Learning Platform. Students should visit the Canvas Website to access information for their specific course.
